Description of Award: 

The GERMAN-CANADIAN STUDIES RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP (PH.D.) is awarded on a biennial basis for the most promising doctoral dissertation project on any aspect in the field of German-Canadian Studies. The GERMAN-CANADIAN HISTORY RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP (PH.D.) is awarded on a biennial basis for the most promising doctoral dissertation project in German-Canadian history by a student enrolled in the University of Manitoba’s Doctoral Program in History, working under the supervision of the Chair in German-Canadian Studies at the University of Winnipeg. The scholarships are awarded by the Spletzer Family Foundation Inc. to foster research of the highest quality at the doctoral level into the past and present experiences of German-speaking immigrants and their descendents in Canada, as well as into history and nature of relations and exchanges between Germany and Canada.
