New! Summer OSAP Extension Application - apply now!
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a government financial aid program that assists eligible Ontario residents attending university through a combination of loans and grants.
Beginning 2017-18, the Ontario government is making major changes to full-time OSAP. The modernization of OSAP includes a significant consolidation of existing OSAP grants (i.e. 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant, Ontario Student Opportunity Grant, Ontario Access Grants and Ontario Distance Grants) into one up-front grant called the Ontario Student Grant (OSG). These and other changes to the application aim to provide timely, transparent, and easy-to-understand financial support to students and families who need it most.
In 2018-19, OSAP will continue to make financial assistance more transparent by working with universities and colleges to introduce ‘net tuition billing’ and other financial aid tools. Net tuition billing aims to provide students and families with a calculated ‘net’ cost of education by using actual tuition costs less eligible OSAP and institutional funding. The purpose is to provide more transparent information about the costs of going to school as well as available government and institutional funding to the student before the school year begins.
