Welcome Students from the United States

16th university in the world according to the US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2016

The University of Toronto and the United States

The University of Toronto has a long history of collaboration with students and faculty in the United States -- more than half of U of T's internationally co-authored research publications are with scholars at American institutions. In 2015, more than 400 students from the United States accepted offers to U of T and currently there are almost 24,000 alumni living and working in the U.S.

Students from the United States choose the University of Toronto for its strong international rankings, the global education they receive, our diverse program options and for the opportunity to live in the City of Toronto. Students and faculty also choose U of T because of our environment of innovation. Our accelerators, courses & programs, and networks help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into viable ventures. And our community has been successful -- from 2012-2014 U of T produced more research-based startups than any other university in North America.

Non-Canadian students studying at U of T are able to work in Canada and gain valuable global experience while studying. After graduation, international students also have the opportunity to stay and work in Canada for up to three years. This means that graduates can choose to bring home what they learned in Toronto or stay in Canada for three more years to continue to grow their global careers. And our students have the valuable skills and qualities for the modern economy -- U of T grads rank among the top in the world for their global employability.

Immigration

If you are not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protect person, you will need valid documents to live and study in Canada. You can apply for a study permit once you've received an offer of admission from the university. We recommend beginning the immigration process as early as possible because it can sometimes take a few months to complete. Our Centre for International Experience is available to help international students navigate the immigration process and answer any questions.
